The predecessor of Kunming Cable Group is the first central electrical equipment factory, which was officially established on July 1, 1939 and produced China's first bare copper conductor that year. It is known as the "cradle of China's wire and cable industry". The bare copper conductor donated by Kunming cable, which was named "Kunming electrician" brand at the time of its birth (the trademark is still used today), is not only an important symbol of China's national cable industry from scratch, but also a historical witness of the Chinese people's arduous struggle and adherence to the war of resistance against Japan.

 

The predecessors of Kunming Cable overcame many difficulties in raw materials, equipment, technology and transportation. By successively suffering two large-scale air strikes by the Japanese aggressors and sacrificing six employees, they supplied almost all the needs of wires and cables in the rear during the war of resistance against Japan. They not only strongly supported the war of resistance against Japan, but also effectively improved the lives of the people in the rear.

In the 1930s, China was poor and weak, and did not have its own wire manufacturing factory, all of them were depended on imports, and its industrial development was seriously restricted. Northeast China has been occupied and North China is becoming increasingly critical and in danger. The three-year plan for China's heavy industry formulated at that time decided to officially prepare for the construction of the central electrical equipment factory in 1936.

During the preparatory period, the Resources Committee of the national government selected four people to study wire manufacturing technology in Britain. Among them, Ge Helin (Ge Helin joined the secret party organization of the Communist Party of China in 1931) served as the leader of the planning group and engineer of the first factory of the central electrical equipment factory established in 1939 after his return. After the founding of new China, Ge Helin successively served as the director of Shanghai cable factory.

 

In 1957, the first five-year plan ended, the national economy grew rapidly and the foundation for industrialization was initially laid. Ge Helin, known as one of the founders of China's cable industry, took on the important task of the first deputy director and chief engineer of Shanghai Cable Research Institute. Hu maoshu, a former member of the steel wire rope Committee and assistant engineer of the first plant of the central electrical equipment factory, served as the deputy chief engineer after the establishment of Shanghai Cable Research Institute. Mao Anmin, a former assistant engineer of the first plant of the central electrical equipment factory, later participated in the preparatory work of Shanghai Cable Research Institute, served as deputy chief engineer, and transferred to Kunming Cable Factory as chief engineer in 1965.
 

From the preservation of kindling to the construction of a complete industrial system in the peaceful era of new China, the Kunming Cable and Shanghai Cable Institute have made great achievements one after another, ensuring the "blood vessel" and "nerve" of the national economy, and casting China's status as a big cable and industrial country today, It has also left a historical chapter worth writing for the China wire and cable science and technology exhibition hall.
