Accident! A British Wind Power Installation Ship Dropped Several Components Into the Sea
Time:2021-11-01 16:34:20

It is reported that during the replacement of the main components of the Ormond offshore wind farm in the UK, a hub, three 61 meter long blades and blade clamps fell into the sea. Most of the components and tools are now on the seabed, and a fragment of broken blades is on the sea.

When the parts fall into the water, the MPI adventure jack up vessel is located next to fan B01.

In addition to three fan blades weighing up to 126 tons and blade clamps weighing about 3 tons, a hub containing three pitch motors, batteries, four electrical cabinets, grease pump and other components also fell into the water. Fragments of one of the blades may reach the coast.

According to Vattenfall, debris removal is ongoing. Most of the fragments are glass fiber fragments and blade parts.

Vattenfall stated that after the incident, there were no reports of injury or damage to van oord's ship. Vattenfall also said that the ship was still at the scene and was currently investigating the cause of the incident.

A Vattenfall spokesman said in a statement: "an accident occurred during the planned maintenance of the Ormond offshore wind farm, resulting in the components falling into the sea. No one was injured, but we immediately informed the relevant authorities and we have launched a comprehensive investigation." "In addition to determining what happened, our attention is also focused on ensuring that any debris in the ocean or washed ashore is cleared as soon as possible."

At the beginning of this year, Vattenfall selected van oord to carry out planned and unplanned maintenance at its offshore wind farms in Europe, which include about 600 turbines in total.

Under a four-year operation and maintenance (O & M) contract, van oord has a one-year extension option to MPI offshore to provide jack up platforms and related lifting services for the exchange of major components in the Vattenfall offshore wind farm portfolio.

The 150 MW Ormond wind farm is located about 10 km away from the coast of funesboro and consists of 30 REpower 5 MW wind turbines. It has been generating electricity since 2011.

In 2015, Vattenfall cooperated with AMF, a Swedish Pension group, in the Ormond wind farm. According to the agreement, AMF held 49% of the shares of the project, while Vattenfall continued to operate the wind farm as a major shareholder.
